[neomutt-users] mailboxes on symlinks

is anyone here using symlinks to names of mailboxes?

i had created a symlink to a mailbox here looong ago (2009).
i recently (2020-10-19) had touched that link. here it is:

    lrwxrwxrwx 1 guckes guckes 16 Oct 19 02:01 LINUX -> LINUX.2009-01...

and i had added that to my list of mailboxes:

    mailboxes ~/Mail.IN/LINUX

when i start with the overview of mailboxes ("neomutt -y")
then i get to see it like this:

    31 0.1K Oct 19 02:01 ~/Mail.IN/LINUX@

now, the "31" is the number within that list.
it simply won't move up in the list when there
is new mail in it as neomutt regards the date+time
of the *link* - which is static. fair enough.

however, i would like this mailbox to show up with
the date+time of the link *target*, of course.
is there a way to do this by any config option?
or is there maybe a patch for this? any hints?

i guess i could work around this by
touching the symlinks with a script.
but.. that's a bit weird, isn't it? ;-)
