I second that this *seems* be OpenBSD specific. If I had to debug I'd probably:

1. Check if the port has any patches and compare the compile flags.
2. Ask the port author if he has any advice.
3. Check if the exact port version also has the issue.
  a. if no, bisect to find the exact NeoMutt commit causing the issue.
